I have been meaning to tell this story to all who know & love D for the last week, so here goes:
Last Saturday before her nap, Lali & I were about to read a book. As is her custom, she asks for binky & Piggy in preparation for sleep. So she says "binky!" and reaches into her crib to retrieve it. After she puts it in her mouth, she pulls it out & says "Yucky, trash." I say nothing as she high tails it to the trash can, drops it in, and runs back.
Laurence joins us & I give him the you-can't-believe-it bug eyes but say nothing. He begins to read the book, but then Delilah yells "binky!" again, and reaches back into the crib to grab her other binky (she's always had two). She puts in her her mouth, takes it out: "Yucky, P.U.!" She runs back to the trash and dumps it, decisively.
She returns; we read the book; she gets in her crib with only Piggy, asks for a tummy rub and is out in 3 minutes flat. And that, my friends, is the end of binky and the beginning of a Young Woman with Will Power!
